What is it?

Supervision is a professional arrangement involving 2 or more therapists in which the supervisee(s) can receive support and encouragement from another, and sometimes more experienced, therapist.

It is also a reflective space in which the supervisee’s can learn and reach a better understanding of themselves and the needs of their clients. This arrangement aims to maintain the supervisee’s fitness to practice and guide them when it comes to approaching ethical dilemmas. The supervisor will support the supervisees in enhancing their skills and knowledge, and the regular nature of the arrangement prompts the supervisee’s to continually monitor and evaluate their own practice thus developing their competencies.

How I work

As your supervisor, I will support you in your development as a therapist and when necessary guide and encourage you. I want to you to feel safe to explore anything that may be troubling you in relation to your work so the supervisory alliance is at the heart of our working arrangement.

I can meet with you via video call, instant message, telephone or by email. Email supervision is no less time-consuming than the other methods but allows a lot more space for reflection. I use a range of supervision models in my supervisory work so if you have a preference please let me know. In advance of starting supervision, I will need to know the code of ethics you abide by and see a copy of your insurance. If you have any questions please get in touch.

Benefits of Digital Supervision

  • Technology can be used to enhance the supervision.
  • Disinhibition can make it easier to explore difficult areas of your work.
  • Online supervision is often more convenient and saves time and money on travel.
  • Technology can make it easier to access supervision when you are working away from the office or live in a remote location.
  • Remote supervision means you can work with a supervisor who doesnt live in your area but has the skills you are looking for.
  • Online supervision can help increase your confidence and competence in working online and using technology to enhance your client’s work.
  • For text-based mediums of supervision, everything that was feedback from your supervisor can be saved so you dont miss any important details.
  • Technology-assisted supervision might suit certain therapists better, for example, those that have specific health or learning needs.
  • Asynchronous email supervision means that you can fit your supervision around your work schedule, for example, spend time on it when you get a cancellation.
